Miami Woman Fatally Struck By Speeding SUV in Hit-and-Run in Wynwood Neighborhood

CarAcc1

A deadly hit-and-run was reported on Tuesday, June 18 in Miami. Rose Marie Jackson was crossing the road around 1:30 a.m. when she was struck by a speeding SUV.  The impact was so profound that it actually caused Ms. Jackson to fly through the air. Her body landed approximately a block away from the location of the initial impact and her neck was broken as a result.

The point of impact where the hit-and-run occurred was at Northwest Second Avenue in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami.  After her body was thrown by the car, she was found minutes later by another driver passing by who stopped and called 911 to alert the authorities.

The family of Ms. Jackson is pleading with the driver of the SUV to come forward and they, along with police, are asking anyone in the public with information to provide it to the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.  There is video surveillance that provides documentation of the moments just before the crash occurred.  Police are hopeful the driver told someone about the accident and that the information will be surrendered.

Hit and Run Accidents in Florida

Florida has remained steady in the amount of hit and run crashes they experience over the years. However, there is still a significant chunk that results in personal injury or even death as a result of hit-and-runs in the state. According to Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), that number is about 25%.

To see which cases are still being investigated you can check out the FLHSMV website.  They maintain a list of active hit-and-runs, which are grouped by counties.

Miami Hit-and-Run Accidents

In 2016 Miami-Dade county had the most hit-and-run incidents in the entire state of Florida.    There were 19,087 of these types of accidents that year alone.  It is imperative that those who have been victimized by others who are reckless and negligent in their actions see justice.
