Speed-Related Car Accidents In Miami: Know The Risks

Speeding2

Most of us keep busy schedules and have numerous personal, professional, and social obligations that place demands on our time. As a result, you could find yourself rushing from one place to another. Unfortunately, this poses major hazards when behind the wheel. Speeding is a common factor in car accidents in Miami. Find out more about the potential risks.

Speeding Blamed For Multi-Vehicle Car Accident In Miami

Three people were taken to local hospitals with potentially serious personal injuries after a fiery multi-vehicle car accident in Miami Gardens. According to an October 14, 2022 NBC Miami News 6 report, it happened around 10:15 a.m., near the corner of Northwest 213th Street and Northwest 37th Avenue.

Police reports indicate that a man driving a Corvette was traveling at a high rate of speed when he collided with two other motorists. While all vehicles involved suffered heavy damage, the Corvette ended up bursting into flames. Fortunately, the driver of that vehicle was able to get out right when the fire started, but still needed to be airlifted to a local hospital with burn injuries. Law enforcement is continuing to investigate and has not announced whether any charges will be filed.

Speeding Increases The Risk of Crashes And Potentially Life Threatening Injuries

Speeding is one of the most common causes of car accidents in Miami, and also the type of crash most likely to result in serious personal injuries. Even going just a few miles over posted limits or driving too fast for road, traffic, or weather conditions puts you and others on the road at risk.

In addition to making it harder to respond appropriately to unexpected events in traffic, it makes drivers more likely to lose control of their vehicle. It also leads to other dangerous driving behaviors, such as running red lights or stop signs, failing to yield, improper passing, and following too closely.

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), one of the biggest risks associated with speeding is potentially fatal injuries. It is a factor in nearly a third of all fatal crashes, claiming the lives of roughly 12,000 people each year, or roughly 30 per day. The following are additional alarming details from the NSC about speed-related crashes:

  • The younger a driver is, the more they are likely to engage in speeding.
  • Speed-related accidents are most common under drivers under the age of 24.
  • Alcohol is a frequent factor in these crashes.
  • Speeding is particularly dangerous in adverse weather and the chances for speed-related fatalities increase dramatically during periods of rain.
