Brightline Safety Tips: How To Reduce The Risk Of Miami Train Accident Injuries

train-accident

High-passenger trains offer both Miami residents and tourists a fast and convenient way to get around the South Florida area and due to high demand, local routes have recently been expanded. While taking the train is generally a safe form of travel, accidents can still happen. Our Miami personal injury lawyer explains common hazards and how to reduce the risks.

Common Types Of Train Accidents That Cause Personal Injuries In Miami

Brightline high-speed trains can save you time when commuting or taking other trips. Due to increased demand, the service recently expanded to include the Orlando area. Brightline trains will now travel from existing stations in Miami to Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach before heading inland to central Florida. As these trains travel at speeds up to 123 miles per hour, it makes what used to be nearly a half-day trip into a relatively easy commute.

An accident that happened the same day the new route was launched serves to highlight potential risks.  According to a September 22, 2023 Palm Beach Post news report, a pedestrian was killed in a train track accident in Delray Beach just minutes before the inaugural Orlando trip was scheduled to leave the Miami train station. Unfortunately, the victim did not survive their injuries, and police are continuing to investigate.

Pedestrian accidents are just one of several ways serious and potentially life-threatening personal injuries can happen when taking the train or walking anywhere near stations and tracks. Other common causes include:

  • Train crashes, which can happen due to debris on the tracks or train scheduling errors;
  • Train crossing accidents impacting motorists, bicyclists, and others involved;
  • Train passenger accidents, such as slips and falls while boarding or being thrown from your seat during your trip.

Reducing Miami Train Accident Risks

The increased amount of train service in our area is convenient for commuters and other travelers. However, it also increases the odds of train accidents in Miami, which can result in potentially fatal personal injuries. To reduce your risks, follow these safety tips:

  • Be extremely cautious anytime you are traveling near train tracks, whether driving, walking, or riding a bike;
  • Only cross at designated areas and adhere to all posted signs and signals;
  • When walking through train stations and waiting at tracks, take your time and avoid crowding or pushing others to get ahead;
  • Use handrails when boarding and ask for assistance if needed;
  • Make sure all personal items are properly secured and remain seated throughout your trip;
  • When getting off, follow instructions, watch your step, and be considerate of other passengers.
