Defective High Chairs and Child Injuries

HighChair

A high chair is a common sight in homes with babies and young toddlers. This chair allows parents to pull their child up to the table where they can spoon-feed the child. Other chairs provide a comfortable, safe place for a baby to take a nap.

Unfortunately, some chairs are defectively designed or manufactured. The legs might be too far apart, and the chair could tip over. Or there might be other defects which end up hurting a child. Contact a law firm to discuss whether you can seek financial compensation for a product defect case.

Protect Your Child by Holding Manufacturers Accountable

Each year, millions of high chairs flood the market. Parents have many options but may not know which ones are the safest. Sadly, every year brings with manufacturer recalls when some of these chairs turn out to be unsafe:

  • In 2022, Stokke recalled almost a thousand of its Clikk high chairs after receiving six reports of the seat breaking, with two children suffering minor bruising.
  • Bugaboo voluntarily recalled almost 20,000 Giraffe high chairs because of a fall hazard. The chair legs were prone to separating from the frame because the screws were not properly tightened. The manufacturer received notice of more than a dozen injuries.
  • A June 2025 recall of 2-in-1 Funlio Baby High Chairs was issued because of the risk a child might become entrapped between the tray and the seat. Also, there was a risk the restraint strap would fail, allowing a child to fall out.
  • Babyjoy 6-in-1 Convertible High Chair Activity Centers were recalled in April 2025 because of a risk that children would become entrapped in the chair legs and suffer injury.

High chairs may be defective for a variety of reasons. Some chairs are designed or manufactured improperly and are at risk of toppling over. Your child can suffer devastating head and neck injuries if the chair tips over due to a design defect.

Other chairs are defective because the space between the seat and the tray is too large. A child might slide out from the gap and land on the floor. Some children could become entrapped and suffer face and neck injuries in the process.

Even if the manufacturer did not recall your chair, you have important legal rights. Sometimes only one chair in a product line is faulty, but parents can still seek financial compensation if a child is injured.

Injuries affecting children are difficult to treat. Infants and toddlers cannot speak, so it is hard to diagnose an injury. Watch your baby carefully if they are hurt in an accident.

Contact a Miami Product Liability Lawyer

After an accident, you should immediately receive medical care for your child. Remember to keep the high chair as well. You might have the right to sue the manufacturer for selling a defective chair. An important component of any legal claim is proving the existence of a defect.
